Wire in the Blood - Val McDermid

Another of the Tony Hill/Carol Jordan series. This book finds the profiling team set up and the rookies investigating a series me murders that police officials believe are just runaways.

This book had me gripped from the start. Val McDermid writes in a way that instantly grabs you and leaves you wanting more at the end of each chapter. This book was read in under 4 days as I could put it down.

I have the next two books sitting waiting to be read.

The School for Husbands - Wendy Holden

Having read all of Wendy Holden's previous books I was hoping for a good read, a bit of light hearted-ness and a good chuckle. I have to say that I was quite disappointed.

The book started off fine and I could really empathise with the female main character but I soon lost interest in the plight of the heroine with me just wanting to shout at her to 'pull herself together and grow up'. The husband of the book had much more of my sympathies than I think he was meant to.

A not bad read if you need something to pass the time.

The Mermaids Singing - Val McDermid

I was given this book for my Christmas on the recommendation of a friend. I've never watched the TV series so this was a whole new area for me.

The book is incredibly gripping, having hooked me right from the start. The characters are easily established and you immediately feel involved with them.

It is a particularly gory book, with the murders explained in detail. I feel this just adds to the book.

All in all a good book that I devoured in less than 3 days.

Notting Hell - Rachel Johnson

My friend gave me this book after she had read it. What can I say: uninspiring, boring. I feel like I trudged my way through this.

The characters themselves were perfectly well written about, however their daily lives were tedious and so far removed from reality that it was almost pointless.

I think that the book was meant to be funny, but the author didn't pull this of.

Intro

This is to keep track of all of thhe books I have read, starting from the begining of this year (2009).
